STS Theoretical Exam
To conduct operations in the Specific Category under Standard Scenarios STS-01 and STS-02, it is necessary to pass the STS theoretical knowledge examination.
Requirements for Obtaining the STS Theoretical Knowledge Certificate
Applicants must:
- hold a certificate of completion of the A1/A3 online training course; and
- successfully pass the STS theoretical knowledge examination.
STS Theoretical Knowledge Examination
The STS examination is conducted as an online test at the premises of the Transport Authority. To pass the examination, applicants must achieve a minimum score of 75%.
The test consists of 40 questions appropriately distributed across the following subject areas:
- aviation regulations;
- human performance limitations;
- operational procedures;
- technical and operational mitigations for ground risks;
- general UAS knowledge;
- meteorology;
- UAS flight performance; and
- technical and operational mitigations for air risks.
Applicants who do not yet hold a Remote Pilot Certificate of Competency for subcategory A2 may submit a declaration confirming completion of self-practical training. Upon successful completion of the STS theoretical examination, the A2 subcategory will also be included in the issued certificate.
Application for the Theoretical Knowledge Examination
Applications for the theoretical knowledge examination may be submitted using the
Application Form for UAS A2 and STS Theoretical Knowledge Examinations in one of the following ways:
- in paper form (by post or in person at the Registry Office of the Transport Authority);
- electronically through the Central Public Administration Portal (slovensko.sk).
Electronic applications, including all required attachments, must be signed with a qualified electronic signature. Applications submitted by email are not considered valid electronic submissions.
Proof of payment of the administrative fee must be attached to the application.
Applicants must select one examination date from the available examination dates listed in the application form.
If the A1/A3 examination was completed with an authority other than the Transport Authority, applicants must attach proof of completion of the A1/A3 online training course.
Processing Time
Unless otherwise provided by a specific legal act, the administrative authority is required to issue a decision within 30 days from the commencement of the proceedings. In particularly complex cases, a decision shall be issued within 60 days. If a decision cannot be issued within these time limits due to the nature of the case, the appellate authority may grant an appropriate extension.
If the authority is unable to issue a decision within 30 or 60 days, it shall notify the applicant and provide the reasons for the delay.
Applicants are considered registered for an examination date only after receiving an email from the Transport Authority confirming the examination date and time.
Examination Venue
The examination is conducted in person at the premises of the Transport Authority in Bratislava. The personal attendance of the applicant is required.
Issuance of the Certificate
After successfully passing the examination, the applicant will receive the STS Theoretical Knowledge Certificate by email in PDF format and also by post in paper form.
Re-examination
If an applicant fails the examination, a new application must be submitted in order to retake the examination.
